More Historical Photos

Courtesy of the Washington State Archives Puget Sound Regional Branch in Bellevue, WA. These are scans of the photo copies we received today.

Front of house as seen in 1939 (second photo was with 1969 assessment):

Back of house as seen in 1939 (second photo was with 1969 assessment, note the removal of one building marked on the photo as VOID):

At some point we’ll post some of the information we can decipher from those assessment papers. We do have some direction now when it comes to replacing more windows in the house.

New Information

Still haven’t posted those bathroom updates... No worries. They’ll come, eventually.

We really don’t have much information about our place here. Nothing much in writing and very few photos. King County Archives may have some old photos, but we haven’t made it in there (it’s by appointment only) to view what they have.

However!!!! While I was looking for something completely different the other day, I stumbled on an announcement on the King County web site. They now have aerial photos from 1938! This is a major clue to our place here as we have no idea exactly where and what buildings were around at that time and we certainly have no clue about where the field drain tiles supposedly are. Until now that is!

Here is an aerial photo, blurry as it is, showing that our property line used to be a bit further north and that there was probably a large garden or orchard on the south fence line.

Compare it to the aerial photo taken in 2005, shortly after our hay harvest, and you can see the differences in buildings and fence lines and trees.

And here is a slideshow of all aerial photos available onlne from King County. Amazing!

Time for an Update

OK, long overdue for an update. We recently started using the shower! Only a few minor projects left, but the saga of the bathroom is nearing an end.

The chimney saga still isn’t complete. Will post pictures and an update on that at a later date, too.

We are happy with the results and look forward to hopefully be doing with any major projects by the time winer comes. Somehow I don’t think that is going to be the case though!
